Guest Post: Hats The Way To Do It

(Guest Post from Jamil Malone)

An accessory that is gaining popularity again, hats have a long and diverse history in fashion. Yes, the ball cap has stayed constant throughout the years, but more recently hats like the Fedora, Flat cap and Newsboy are gaining their market share. I have my own collection of hats I have acquired throughout the years. During these past few cold months, they have been quite important to help keep my head warm. Here are a few rules and best practices that men should follow, from one hat lover to another:

  1. When choosing a hat, make sure it fits with your outfit. Colors and styles should relate.
  2. Never wear a hat indoors. Once inside, take your hat off and either hold on to it, place it in a coat closet or check it. If you are unable to check or place your hat with your coat, you can place it on an empty chair by you, on your knee or even on the table
  3. If you check your hat, ensure that it is kept in a safe place to prevent hurting the shape of the hat. Hats are delicate.

Like a good suit or pair of jeans, your hat should fit properly. Many larger cities will have hatters and milliners (hat makers) who will gladly help fit a hat for you. If you live in Wichita, Hatman Jack’s has the largest selection of hats in the region. Find your nearest hatter and try on a few pairs to see what looks right. And if you’re really interested, bring in the clothing you’d wear with the hat to see how it works together.

Hats are a fun and fashionable addition to any wardrobe. Whether you’re going for a formal look with a suit, or a fun night on the town, a hat can add much to your outfit. Try one on for size today!

AMEN Mr. Malone! Thank you for pointing out the fact that it is proper to remove your hat once indoors. Have some respect gentlemen.
